Evaluations

 Comprehensive Evaluations

We conduct comprehensive speech-language, myofunctional, and/or feeding evaluations to identify areas of need that could be addressed through formal therapy sessions. Comprehensive evaluations generally include the administration of standardized tests (to determine where your child’s skills are compared to age-matched peers), informal assessments, clinical observations, a written report of findings, and review of the report with the family.

If speech-language, myofunctional, or feeding therapy is recommended and initiated at Pathway Therapy Specialists, your child’s treating therapist will create a Plan of Care document that includes your child’s individualized goals for therapy.

If your child has had an evaluation completed elsewhere within the last 6 months, we would be happy to review it and determine whether additional information is needed.

Independent Educational Evaluations (IEEs)

Pathway Therapy Specialists is available for speech-language Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE) assessments. An IEE is an evaluation done by a qualified evaluator who is not an employee of your school division. You have the right to ask for an IEE at public expense (in other words, at no cost to you) if you disagree with the results of an evaluation conducted by the school.

IEEs could be done as an evaluation or reevaluation for special education services, or an evaluation for a specific service or support (for example, technology supports or speech therapy). Asking for an IEE is like asking for a 2nd opinion from a doctor.

You could consider requesting an IEE when the results or analysis of the school’s evaluation seem incorrect, or if the school has decided not to conduct an evaluation you feel your child needs. Reasons for an IEE may include:

•You think the evaluation was incomplete or was not based on testing strategies that are valid for your child’s disability.

•You do not think that the evaluator was qualified.

•You do not think that the data that was collected was accurate.

•You have seen your child do things that the evaluator says he cannot do or vice versa and therefore question the evaluations results.

If you have questions about IEEs or would like to schedule one, feel free to reach out to us and we can discuss options.
